Obsessed? NinjaPoodle they got the whole SET.NinjaPoodle wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 10:27 amPalantir and now Orc, are these people obsessed with Tolkien?
Palantir, the spy software. Anduril, the weapons. Mithril, Peter Thiel's money. Erebor, which is a BANK named after the mountain where the dragon slept on everybody's gold, and they said that with their chest. And the Vice President of the United States named his investment fund Narya. That's Gandalf's ring. From a book where the whole plot is a ring that ruins whoever wears it.
Here's what gets me. Tolkien was in the trenches at the Somme. Wrote later that by 1918 all but one of his close friends was dead. Came home and wrote a thousand pages where the bad guy is whoever got the factories. Treebeard says Saruman got "a mind of metal and wheels." That's the VILLAIN. These dudes read the whole thing and went: cool names.
Detroit already lived this book, by the way. We WAS Isengard. Furnaces, smoke, the Rouge plant, the arsenal of democracy, we built the war machines for the whole world. Then the work left and the trees came back and took the east side. I seen a tree growin out the roof of the Packard Plant. In Detroit the Ents WON. Greatest city on earth.
And Orc is the one that tells on itself. In Tolkien a orc is a elf that got captured and tortured till he'd work for the Dark Lord. That ain't a company name, that's the job description. "1000x engineers." That's what a orc IS. One elf doin the work of a thousand, and they beat the singin out of him.
Smucky, you didn't get ghosted by HR. You escaped. They was about to take a perfectly good elf with a tractor and turn him green.
One employee on LinkedIn and a waitin list. You put your name down, you wait your turn, and one guy services everybody. That ain't a startup. That's a glory hole with a pitch deck.
Showed it to Marcus. He said "they copied us," went to the whiteboard, and wrote ORC under Phase 1. So now it's a bird, a marmot and a orc, and he STILL won't tell me which one is the logo.

Re: AI is dying
Then as proof point, I came across this claude code "tip" which was recommended after claude "fixes" a "bug":
And so just now, after a code review started to go kind of wonky, I gave it:Knowing everything you know now, scrap this and implement the elegant solution.
Oh and wow, the stupid SHIT worked, it turned a page of code into just a few lines and a configuration change. For #1096, that seems like quite the issue and really digging into the django internals. Knowing everything you know now, could we scrap this and use a more elegant solution?
FUCKING HATE SH!T like this so FUCKING MUCH
Instead of coding, you are now supposed to be some kind of social engineer that "fools" AI agents into thinking right
