Just use AI.Smucky wrote: Thu Sep 25, 2025 11:35 pm Spent most of yesterday thinking about better and more space efficient ways to backup/make snapshots of my laptop and other computers. Debating on just using LVM snapshots but the issue there, in its regular form, each snapshot decreases the disk performance. The way out of that is LVM with thin provisioning as snapshots with that doesn't decrease performance but the other issue is with thin provisioning performance is just all around degraded and one needs to do benchmarking and tuning. So kind of gave up on that idea but that was a 5 hour rabbit hole![]()

Only a few hours till midnight. I really need to get my 40 hours in for this week
Well anyway, I guess for tomorrow I'll get to work on fixing the old barn. I'm just going to skip taking a coffee induced dump and roll straight out of bed and head outside
I think I'll first get a winch set up going on and then try to winch it up as straight as I can. Then get the water hose going on a few of the existing posts and try to turn the parched clay from concrete into softer mud so I can hopefully winch it up even straighter. From there, get to work on new holes and posts.
I also forgot to check my nail and screw inventory
will probably have to go to the store again

You need an excavator attachment for your tractor, then you could just used the excavator directly or hang a winch from it.Smucky wrote: Sat Sep 27, 2025 1:15 am Only a few hours till midnight. I really need to get my 40 hours in for this week![]()

I wished I could buy nails by the pound. The expensive shops I go to have them in boxes or small plastic bags, like it was candy for children.
Though I seldom use nails these days. Today I use self drilling screws, that I just drill using an electric screw driver.

Back to barn work. Think I'll cut come notches in the wood. Maybe it will grip better? And stay straight longer?

Maybe. The top of the post obviously has a nice smooth finish cut on the top, and I didn't want to make it all ragged with a chainsaw. Figured that would make it hold more water, etc. I could paint it, but didn't want to mess with paint. I was mainly just very happy that I was able to get the post in the hole all the way without having to rip part of the roof off. There are two posts I am going to add to the back half. No way to get them in there with out ripping up some of the tin roof and then dropping the posts down through that. I guess that will be next weekend's project

You have done the roof beam weaker by cutting out a section of it. What you should have done is to cut the post to the proper length, then also add metal joint plates to secure the new post to the beam. Any moisture regardless if you cut it or not doesn't matter. The post is also impregnated so it should help.Smucky wrote: Mon Sep 29, 2025 4:08 pmNinjaPoodle wrote: Mon Sep 29, 2025 8:55 am![]()

I don't really care about the stuff I cut out, it is pretty rotten anyway. The barn itself was built back in 1970's. I'll get some of the metal joist strap things when nails will no longer work due to rotNinjaPoodle wrote: Mon Sep 29, 2025 4:28 pm
