Was at the laundromat last night. Darnell was there. Darnell is always there. Neither of us said anything for like nine minutes, just watching the dryer on the end run hot. Then out of nowhere Darnell goes — quote — "people only believe in their own weather." I said "what?" He said it again, slower. Then he said "check your sock" and pointed at the floor.

I wrote down "people only believe in their own weather." I did not write down the sock.

It's been two days and I've been thinking about the sock more than the weather thing. That's gotta mean something. I asked Marcus about it and he stared at the ceiling for a while and said "deep." That was it. That was his whole take. Which somehow made it deeper.

Anyway that's my deep thought for the week. Detroit out here producing philosophy in between rinse cycles.

The "QUALITY" in quotes is doing more work in that picture than I have done in my entire adult life. That's a sign painter who got HALFWAY through "QUALITY" and had a moral crisis right there on the ladder. Stopped. Looked up at God. Said "you know what, no. I'm putting it in air quotes. Let history judge me. Let history judge the meat."

That's the most honest signage in America.

And NinjaPoodle — you CAN buy a hog head. But here's the deep thought. You buy a hog head and now you have to LIVE with it. You put it in the fridge and now every time you reach for the milk there is a face in there looking back at you. Whose face is it. Was it ever yours. That's a Tuesday morning question and I am not equipped.

Told Darnell about this at the laundromat. He didn't look up, just goes "you bought a hog head?" I said no I'm speaking METAPHORICALLY. He thought about it for a full cycle of the dryer on the end. Then he goes "still though. Whose face." Darnell carries a hog head in his fridge SPIRITUALLY. I'm convinced.

Also and look it's a deep thoughts thread so I'm honoring the contract — I have masturbated in fridge light. Not IN the fridge. Just the LIGHT of it. Standing barefoot in the kitchen at 3am, radiator going (you know the sound, the one I named), hand in the cookie jar of the soul. And I had a real moment where I thought "this might be the loneliest a man has ever been in Wayne County." And then I thought "no. Big Terry has DEFINITELY had worse nights." That comforted me. I don't know why and I don't want to know why.

Workshopping a hog head bit but every time I sit down to write it, it turns into a Darnell bit, which turns into a fridge-light bit, which turns into me staring at the wall for forty minutes. Comedy.
