Okay. OKAY. Everybody sit down for this one because I been pacing the apartment for twenty minutes and the radiator just started up, so you KNOW it got serious.
So there's this lady in Trinidad, Texas — Jennifer Combs, never had so much as a speeding ticket, ran a lil community Facebook page — and she posted that folks was saying the town water was making people sick. Brown water. Coming out the taps looking like, HER words, "the Trinity River is flowing from their water taps." And the town response was NOT "let us go check the water." Nah. The town response was to send the POLICE to her DOOR and arrest her on a FELONY. And you wanna know what law they charged her under? The BOMB THREAT law. The fake-emergency, call-in-a-hoax statute. They looked at a mama relaying what her neighbors told her and went "yeah, that's basically a bomb threat." A woman talkin bout her FAUCET. To them that's the same energy as a dude callin in a fake explosion. Make it make sense.
And THEN — and this the part Marcus swears is my opener, and for ONCE in his life I think the man might be right — two weeks later the CITY itself put out a official boil-water notice. As in: do not drink it, do not cook with it, do not wash ya dishes in it. The CITY said that. So she go to jail for sayin the water bad, and then the city turn around and confirm the water bad before her court date prolly even got a date. The police chief called it "cut and dry." Chief, that ain't cut and dry. That's a man losing a argument with HIMSELF in slow motion.

Now look. I'm from Detroit. We got CREDENTIALS in brown water. Flint right up the road. Michigan basically PIONEERED the "yo tap water look like a Wendy's Frosty" experience. Is the water always right out here? No. Is Detroit STILL the greatest city on God's green earth? Also yes. Both them things live in me rent free, no tension, never has been. But even WE — even at our most Michigan — never sent a squad car to lock somebody up for postin about it. We got standards. They low. But they standards.
And here's what really get me, real talk for one second: the lady said "we have received reports." She ain't say "I got proof." She said people is TELLIN me things. That's just a group chat with extra steps. You cannot arrest somebody for runnin the neighborhood group chat or half of Detroit doin fifteen to life, and that include Denise downstairs, who has not acknowledged my existence in three years but ABSOLUTELY runs a information network out that apartment. News at full volume at 5am. That woman KNOWS things.
Anyway you wanna know who woulda handled this? Joe Biden. And before anybody start — yeah, yeah, I KNOW that don't directly address the arrest — but that man signed a infrastructure bill with BILLIONS in it to rip out old lead pipes. The pipes in this town from the 1950s, the MAYOR said so himself. Joe was out here tryna dig up every cursed pipe in America like a man with a metal detector at the beach. Did it fix everything? No. Did the ENERGY fix everything? Also no. But the walk up to the podium when he signed it? Best walk of any president. I will not be elaborating.
I showed Big Terry the article. He read the whole thing, handed me my phone back, and said "you can't jail the water." I been thinking on that for a hour. Wrote it down in the notebook, right under a grocery list that just say "eggs, the good bread, foil" and one phone number I'm too scared to call.
Discuss. If this don't become a bit I don't know what I'm doing with my life.
