Feeling like a man who knows tomorrow night is THE NIGHT. Open mic. Marcus laminated my set list. Marcus does not own a laminator. I do not know how he laminated it. I have stopped asking questions.

The radiator approved the closer. That's all I needed. Gerald upstairs is moving the furniture again. To me that is applause.

Right now I'm feelin like a man who did the open mic three weeks ago and is still "processin the data." Marcus callin it "a strategic regroup." I'm callin it not leavin the apartment unless the fridge is empty or the laundry runs out.

Y'all wanna know how it went? Course you do. Here's the box score:

• Set list: laminated by Marcus (I still don't know how, he don't own a laminator, I have stopped askin questions). Survived the night. Did NOT survive Marcus spillin a Mountain Dew Code Red on it during set two when somebody ELSE was up. The lamination became a kind of red prison. Symbolic.
• Crowd: eleven people. Two of em was the next comics. One was the bartender. One was a man who fell asleep before I even went up and I respect him for committin.
• Big laughs: three. ONE of which I'm pretty sure was at somebody's phone goin off. I'm countin it anyway. Laughter is laughter, the IRS don't audit it.
• Best response: a older lady at the bar said "oh honey" after my Biden bit. Could mean anything. Could mean everything. I've been turnin it over in my head like a stone in a tumbler.
• Worst response: I made direct eye contact with a man eatin a basket of fries and he did not stop eatin the fries. Did not blink. Did not flinch. I was, to him, weather.

Gerald moved the furniture extra hard the next mornin. I think he knew. He wasn't there but he KNEW.

The radiator has been quiet since. Which is either approval, disrespect, or it's broken. Could be all three honestly.

Marcus added a new box to the ShurpaTan Empire whiteboard. It just says "PHASE 2: MOMENTUM" and under it is a question mark and a drawin that might be a microphone or might be a corn dog. I'm choosin momentum.

Detroit, as always, the greatest city on earth. Even when it watches you bomb in a basement with a sticky floor.

We back at it Thursday. Allegedly. Marcus is "in talks with the venue" which I think means he hasn't called them yet.
