Typical, plan like 5 things and do like two
Adjusted valves
Painted tdc mark Tractor never really warms up when it was running. Figured thermostat was missing. Checked, and it was there
did some testing and looks like it is a 160* model "wahler" brand. Made in "W Germa"
Got the injector studs in and most of the intake

West Germany, that means that the thermostat was manufactured in 1980s. You need to replace that one.
The result of old thermostats is often that they close more slowly because the bimetal is worn.

Tractor is from 1974 I think? So did someone screw with it in the 80's with an aftermarket? But don't think you can find a "wahler" brand tstat here in the states. Dunno.NinjaPoodle wrote: Sun Aug 09, 2026 9:34 amSmucky wrote: Sun Aug 09, 2026 5:12 am did some testing and looks like it is a 160* model "wahler" brand. Made in "W Germa"

But I have a replacement that doesn't really fit I could use. Just need to make the "plunger" part of it shorter first

There are tons of them, also newer ones.Smucky wrote: Sun Aug 09, 2026 7:29 pm Tractor is from 1974 I think? So did someone screw with it in the 80's with an aftermarket? But don't think you can find a "wahler" brand tstat here in the states. Dunno.
Just find the part number on the thermostat and you will find it.

You need to check in the manual what temperature it should be intended for.

That looks mega sketchy, you're basically rebuilt the engine and you're going to destroy it with that.

Re: My activities for the month of stardate 20666 are/is
Got the intake manifold on and torqued, then realized I had to get the water manifold on before dumping in antifreeze so figured I'd also put the exhaust manifold on too.
Then got the exhaust on, noticing a large hole for some reason
Then realizing the threads on the flange on the manifold have completely rusted away
Tightening either nut past a point just causes it to jump back down
So kind of dead in the water as far as getting that on
Debating on whether to try to mess with the stud removal myself with a propane torch or taking it to a shop
I guess in a day or two I'll get the fuel lines and injectors on and then fire it up without the pipe

Been awake for like two hours. Eyes still burning
Anyway, will probably work on the tractor today. Need to at least get it out of the barn so I can stuff hay in its place

And then spent the rest of the day wrangling the 47 freshly baled round bales.
Actually only wrangled 8 of them after an hour

Nice but you need to fix that exhaust, otherwise the engine will become black.Smucky wrote: Wed Aug 12, 2026 4:54 am And then tighten everything up and FIRE![]()

I spoke to the uncle at the family auto shop. Said I had a hole in the exhaust and stuck bolts in the manifold. He didn't seem enthused and mostly just grumbled something. So not sure if that means I should just drop everything off or break into the place over the weekend and do it all my self

My friend has been having car trouble and he finally found someone with a decent scanner that he could borrow. I told him to give me a recording of the "live data" view. He sends me a recording of what looks to be the live data help page
He is usually pretty smart. I am not sure what to do now
Also, is he wearing a wife beater? Dang

Re: My activities for the month of stardate 20666 are/is
Man gay week. Everyday felt like Monday. Had all that hay baled.. so was a constant train of slowly moving nearly 50 bales to the barn and/or people that would show up randomly through out the week to buy. Hate it so much, but they pay money so can't whine
Bought another $300 in coffee
tmobile keeps screwing with our bill so jumped to google fi with free phones
Son started school this week and whining how all the boys on the bus keep telling "dick" and "cock" jokes
Noticed my uncle over at my grandpa's house so figured I'd be nosy and see what was going on. Walk inside, no lights on, all dark, but can hear voices in the bathroom and other strange noises as I get closer going down the hallway. Weird smells increasing.
I ask "is everything all right?" to which uncle says "No, come look" which is not a normal answer.
Slink through the bathroom door to see grandpa standing in the shower with only a SHIT smeared shirt on, catheter bag hanging out his wang, SHIT on his hands, SHITTY diaper around his feet. He's trying to drain the catheter bag into the oxygen machine while uncle is digging a mountain of towels stuffed in the toilet that were under a mountain of liquid SHIT. Several boxes of bandaids in the floor. Floors are wet (piss?). Got toilet un-stuffed, Got grandpa back on it. He continued to babble crap and mostly couldn't comprehend we were even there. Figured we couldn't leave him like this so called the ambulance. We managed to get him up and get a clean diaper on before they wheeled him out on a chair thing. Told uncle not to worry about the bathroom, I'd get on it. He gives thumbs up and bolts.
I have to go deal with hay sales and eat a super late lunch. Come back over to clean. Shit smears and puddles have now mostly dried, simple clean up impossible.
Get mop and bucket, sling water everywhere, sling soggy mop everywhere. Slowly melt all the SHIT clods and streaks. Make huge mess but keep mopping and changing the water. Floors and furniture getting cleaner with every pass. Feeling good about my "help" and accomplishments.
Finally done, "mopped" the toilet and "mopped" the bowl. Feeling good, I'm done.
Close the lid
Ah SHIT

Re: My activities for the month of stardate 20666 are/is
Also for context, grandpa had went to the hospital a couple of days ago because he hadn't SHIT in 6 days so he thought something was wrong. What ever tests they did, they said he wasn't full of SHIT but put him on a laxativemaxxing routine anyway. So he basically sat on the toilet for two days and then eventually went into some kind of delirium, either a stroke or really bad UTI. Been in hospital for two days, extended family said they'd call when they get news but been two days and no one called so not sure if that means he is stuck like this or everything ok
