Anthony has been held in custody on a $1 million bail for allegedly stabbing Metcalf to death during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium. According to a police report, Metcalf asked Anthony to leave a tent set up for Metcalf's track team. Anthony reportedly refused to leave the tent, which sparked a confrontation between the pair, who were on opposing teams. As the altercation escalated, Anthony allegedly reached into his bag, pulled out a knife, and stabbed Metcalf to death. Authorities said the defendant confessed to the killing in an interview and claimed he stabbed Metcalf in an act of self-defense, as indicated in the report.

One witness said Metcalf touched Anthony, while another said he grabbed Anthony during the confrontation, according to the report.

The incident has since garnered national attention not only due to the tragic loss of a young athlete but also because the case has sparked discussions about race and fairness, as Anthony is black and Metcalf is white. Both families have received substantial financial support through fundraisers.

Earlier this week, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said Anthony will not face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole because he allegedly committed the crime as a juvenile. Defenders of Anthony have claimed he is a victim of systemic racism and demanded for his bail to be lowered.

In the wake of the fatal stabbing at a Frisco high school track meet, the CBS News Texas I-Team found a surge of misinformation has swept through social media platforms, causing confusion and fear.

High-profile X accounts (formerly Twitter), including @EndWokeness and @LibsofTikTok, quickly amplified the incident just hours after it occurred on April 2, claiming it received "zero national outrage" and didn't "fit the narrative." These posts garnered nearly 50 million views.
Fabricated details and a fake Austin Metcalf autopsy report

Soon after, a fake X account posing as the Frisco Police Chief began disseminating fabricated details about the investigation. The next day, a fake autopsy report surfaced on Facebook, falsely claiming drugs were involved. The disinformation continued to spread, with fake Instagram screenshots of guns further fueling anger and uncertainty.

The CBS News Confirm team, along with law enforcement, confirmed these social media posts to be fabricated.

While most misinformation posted online is not a crime, impersonating a police officer is. The Frisco Police Department, along with the FBI, is investigating the fake X account that impersonated the police chief.

Tracking down the original creators of misinformation is challenging, as people post anonymously, the content spreads quickly, and original posts can be deleted or edited long before anyone figures out who is behind them.

Dr. Daxton "Chip" Stewart, a journalism professor at Texas Christian University specializing in social media and free speech, explained that while the spread of disinformation online isn't new, recent changes by Meta—the parent company of Facebook and Instagram—have, in his opinion, exacerbated the problem.

Earlier this year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the end of the use of fact-checkers on their platforms, relying instead on users to flag misinformation through a feature called Community Notes, similar to what Elon Musk's social platform X uses. The official removal of third-party fact-checkers on Meta platforms happened earlier this month.

Karmelo Anthony's newly hired attorney, Kim T. Cole, is general counsel to the Next Generation Action Network Foundation. NGAN is a BLM-supporting 501(c)(3) that, based on a full investigation, has brought in six figures, yet has filed a total of only two IRS reports since its inception in 2014. According to federal law, 501(c)(3)s are required to file annual returns of their income and expenses with the Internal Revenue Service. Records also show that the organization received a grant from another entity called "Good Work Dallas" with the same registered address, which can indicate alleged money laundering.

They have also repeatedly opened new 501(c) organizations (3 and 4) under slightly different names, and when their status is revoked for lack of financial filing or when pressure is placed on them to file, they start a new entity. This leaves room for money to "disappear." This involves multiple federal EINs, state recognition, and missing entities in between the years that each 501(c) has begun.

The fraudulent foundation is run and was founded by Dominique Alexander, Karmelo Anthony's "family advocate" and a known felon with a history of fraud, forgery, corruption woman battery and a conviction for child abuse. Dominique also has a history of provoking violent protesting, arriving at people's private homes to "protest," and intimidating jurors.

Dominique was also responsible for the protest in Dallas that ended with Micah Johnson's gunfire and five officers dead. Karmelo Anthony's newly hired attorney, Kim T. Cole, is also Dominique's attorney.

In a recent press conference, Dominique Alexander spoke as Karmelo's advocate, stating that the "bond was too high" and defended the argument of "self-defense." He said that Karmelo's family was dealing with "racism and bigotry" (he stated this phrase about a dozen times). When asked about the knife carried by Karmelo, he justified Karmelo's right to hold the knife by comparing his case to Zimmerman and Kyle Rittenhouse. He then told a blatant falsehood and said that Austin Metcalf's brother said in a media interview that Karmelo Anthony told Austin Metcalf, "Don't put your hands on me." Not only were these words never stated, but the arrest report relays that the exact words were, "Put your hands on me and see what happens."

This lie served to aggravate protesters, create a narrative to cause more divisiveness, and provoke more inflammatory racist behavior.

Karmelo Anthony’s mother speaks out regarding death threats and harassment the family has received

The 17-year-old is accused of stabbing a sports rival during an intense encounter at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2.

The mother of Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old suspect in a fatal stabbing at a track meet earlier this month in Frisco, Texas, is speaking out amid the harassment the family is facing.

On Thursday afternoon, April 17, during a press conference, the boy’s mother, Kala Hayes, pleaded with the public through tears to leave her family alone as they continue to navigate this difficult time.

“Three years ago, my family moved to North Texas, searching for a better life,” she began. “Like so many other families, we wanted to give our children the future we did not have. My husband works hard every single day to provide for us, to make sure we [are] in the best financial position possible. As a stay-at-home mom, I made it my life’s mission to ensure our children are loved, nurtured, and supported every step of the way. In the wake of this tragic incident, our family has been under attack.”

On April 2, it’s alleged that Anthony stabbed Austin Metcalf, also 17, during an intense encounter between the two as their rival teams waited out a rain delay during the event at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco. Anthony, who admitted to the stabbing and has maintained he was acting in self-defense, was charged with murder.

In the aftermath of that “rainy and awful day,” Hayes said her family has been experiencing widespread harassment, including rumors, death threats, the leaking of both their home address and the address of her husband’s former employer, and discrimination.

“Whatever you think … happened between Karmelo and the Metcalf boys, my three younger children, my husband and I didn’t do anything to deserve to be threatened, harassed and lied about,” she said.

Some of the conversation stems from misinformation surrounding the funds from an online fundraiser that was launched for the family and Anthony’s legal fees. While some online have claimed the family is using the funds to buy a new house, the mother cleared the air, stating the claims are “completely false,” as they have yet to received any money from the fundraiser. The family has expressed in court that they are only considering a move to avoid harassment.

“The lies and false accusations that have been said about us, especially over the past week, [have] been overwhelming,” she explained. “The lies and their amplification put my family in danger, as well as everyone in our community, everyone involved in the investigation, from the police, the attorneys, and the court staff.”

Hayes said her 13-year-old daughter is afraid to sleep in her own bedroom because she fears what could happen to her. Her husband, whose mental health she said is deteriorating “day by day,” had to take a leave of absence from work for the same reason.

“I don’t know why we are being targeted and discriminated against before our fair trial, our son deserves the same rights under the law that everyone is afforded,” Hayes said during the press conference as tears rolled down her face.

She explained that Anthony was raised in a two-parent household with structure, stability and love.

“We put God first in everything that we do,” she continued. “We believe in the Constitution. We believe in the laws of this state, but those laws must apply to all of us, not just some of us.”

She also addressed the Metcalf family, stating, “My heart truly goes out to you.”

“To those who have supported my family, thank you. From the bottom of our hearts. We ask for your continued support, patience, and prayers as we navigate this difficult process,” she concluded.

The statement arrives after Anthony was released on a $250,000 bond after a successful bond hearing to lower it from the original $1 million. The case will soon be brought before a grand jury for consideration on whether or not to indict him and whether he will stand trial.

High School Football Player Austin Metcalf’s Final Tweet Before His Untimely Death Will Send Chills Down Your Spine

Another student fatally stabbed 17-year-old student Austin Metcalf during an altercation at a high school track meet in suburban Dallas on Wednesday.

The stabbing happened around 10 a.m. at the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) District 11-5A championship track meet, which was being held at the Frisco Independent School District’s Kuykendall Stadium.

Family members told WFAA that he was a student-athlete at Frisco’s Memorial High School. His twin brother Hunter was also in attendance.

Metcalf was attending a track and field championship between other area schools at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas when the fatal attack happened.

The junior at Frisco ISD’s Memorial High School was in the stands at the stadium when a confrontation broke out between the teen and 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony.

Anthony, a senior at Centennial High School, was allegedly told he was sitting in the wrong seat prior to the alteration. In response, he allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked, according to Metcalf’s father, Jeff Metcalf, who relayed that information to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
