It is possible that the stands that sell stuff might have used that trashcan but they have special hired containers anyway. In the festival you see all sort of food, burger, crepes, langos, Indian, Asian and drinks of all sorts ... and of course churros.Smucky wrote: Sun May 25, 2025 3:41 pm I've kind of never seen fruit in a trash can like that. Is it normal in other countries that during public gatherings they just hand out fruit or something? Because here in the USA there's nothing for free and it's just expensive fried pickle on a stick type things everywhere.
I'll settle with my monkey theory.
I've got another memory pop up where I saw fruit in the trash can. This was at public school of course. During field trips and other "special" days, instead of cafeteria food, we'd get a "bagged lunch". Which was a wax paper bag with a sandwich, small bag of chips, a mustard/mayo packet, and a random fruit. I always thought it was weird there was fruit. Not sure why, probably because I don't think I ever saw fruit in my parent's house growing up. Would just chunk it into the trash. And everyone else had the same idea because there'd be a ton of uneaten fruit in the trash can.
Also even weirder, when we'd take the TAAS test, the cafeteria would be shut down. So we'd get a bagged lunch. Kind of weird that for the most important test that determines the school's placement for state funding would be fueled by chips and cheese sandwiches.
But anyway, the high school was built like an 'E' shape. The cafeteria was in the middle 'wing' and there was a courtyard on either side. So during the TAAS test we got creative and we'd try to throw apples and stuff over the cafeteria wing and into the next courtyard. Typically the courtyards would stay segregated, one would be mostly whites and the other mostly mexicans. So we'd be hoping to injure a random mexican. Never happened but this one time, someone with a rocket arm, threw an orange over the cafeteria wing, cleared the courtyard, and then it smashed through a window on the next wing which just happened to be the administrative office with the principals.
Kind of funny thinking about it now. The most important day of the year, and an orange blasts through the principal's window
