SCAM ALERT
On December 12, 2025, deputies responded to a reported scam involving a victim on the northeast side of Bexar County.
The victim reported that on December 11, 2025, she received a phone call from a man who falsely claimed to be an attorney with a pretrial incarceration program. The caller told her that her son had been involved in a car accident and was arrested for DWI. He further claimed the other driver was a pregnant, retired federal employee, and that bond for her son was set at $180,000.
The scammer instructed the victim to deposit $18,000 into a Bitcoin kiosk to secure her son’s release. Believing the call to be legitimate, the victim complied.
The caller later contacted her again, falsely stating that the other driver had miscarried as a result of the accident and demanded an additional $18,000, which the victim also deposited.
When the caller later demanded another $20,000 to have the case dismissed, the victim attempted to withdraw funds from her bank. A bank teller recognized the situation as a scam and advised the victim to verify the information with her son. Upon contacting him, the victim learned he had not been involved in any accident and was safe at home.
