New Year's TV Marathons

Post by Smucky »

As a teenager in the 1990's, I always enjoyed the time between christmas and Jan 1st. This was always a full week of decent TV programming, episode marathons, and my fav, the MTV and VH1 top 100 songs count down. Sometimes it was the top 100 of the last century, or top 100 of the last decade etc. Or something like that at least. I swear one time it was like a top 500 or something. Watching hours of music videos and binge watching random tv sitcom marathons was just part of what you did between dec 25 and jan 1.

And since I'm unemployed and don't have much going on, figured I'd try to see what is on this week, you know, any special stuff etc. I don't have cable, or satellite, or any subscription services. But then I remembered that I have access to my grandpa's DISH account as I set up auto billing for him years ago.

I logged into that, and sure enough, the account now has "dish anywhere" which is basically a mirror image of satellite programming only over the internet via their TV app. I installed it on my TV, now I have MTV, nickelodeon, foxnews, the whole shebang.

But all week, mtv, mtv2, and vh1 have done nothing but play movies. Does the 'M' now stand for "movie television"? Checked the schedule for tonight, just movies. No top music countdown. Nothing. Like what? :rpoke:
Digging through the whole TV guide is basically the same, no special end of year anything. Except the infomercial channels, it was all "end of year sale specials" :gay:

I dug up an old aerial antenna, plugged that into the TV, got the local channel list and guides. Nothing there either. The local news stations have some end of year celebration stuff starting around 10pm, but seems to just be a rebroadcast of the typical abc, nbc "party" in new york. :gay:

I dunno, feels kind of strange. I guess the world I grew up in no longer exists :rpoke:
