The rabbit hole I fell into today is...
What holes have been sucking up your time lately?

Re: The rabbit hole I fell into today is...
Well, was going to make a post, but too busy going down holes.

Re: The rabbit hole I fell into today is...
Well anyway, got bit by the "I need a new tv" bug. Not sure why, been pretty happy with my 10 year old 27" which I have in front of my couch on the floor because I was going to hang it on the wall right after we moved in here. But that kind of never happened. But not I am tired of tripping over it and having to vacuum around it every week. So started thinking about how to get it up on the wall and run all the cords. A 27" on the wall would just look goofy it seemed, and if I had a bigger screen, it would better hide the cords running behind it. Probably going to pull the trigger on an OLED Sony later tonight

Sounds like fun. What caliber are you going to use?

Spending most of today trying to figure out how to mount the new tv. Was going to make a small wooden frame to replace the fireplace mantel. But specs say the tv weighs 40lbs. Seems heavy for what I was going to frame it with. Hmm

Doing some night time wood working because real men don't sleep

Rode hard, hung up wet.

Re: The rabbit hole I fell into today is...
Should have put my wood working adventures in dedicated thread. Sorry, mods please don't ban me.

For the next rabbit hole, after getting bitten with the "radio controlled clock bug", I decided to replace my wristwatch with a radio controlled one. But curiosity got me and I wanted to know what the guts looked like. Found a disassembly video on a similar model on youtube.
You can see the radio antenna coil at the top, and the three motor coils at the bottom. One probably drives the date, one for a combined minute and second hand, and then the other for the hour hand.
At this point, I still wasn't sure if the coils were part of a "motor" or what. But more digging showed that they are a Lavet type stepping motor Most clocks will just have one.
This is a wonderful explanation video. Like and subscribe kids!
Many many hours on this rabbit hole. You are welcome

You should bring up that on your next job interview, that you have three Lavet motors while most people just have one.Smucky wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 10:28 pm At this point, I still wasn't sure if the coils were part of a "motor" or what. Heh, good point, I'll try to work that in. I've seen some job postings (that I didn't apply to) describe how if you pass the tech/coding part, the next part will be a "more relaxed" personality test where you give a presentation on a topic of your choice. I could probably work it in there if nothing elseNinjaPoodle wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 10:33 pm
