Currently installing Morrowind

Post by Smucky »

First install the openmw engine
Then get the game data for $7 at GoG

I legit stole the game from walmart back in like 2002. Didn't even really want it. Installed it on my new-ish dell inspiron 8200 laptop and it ran like crap. Then I think the laptop started blue screening before it would even boot up, so had to re-install windows and just never reinstalled the game and my friend had the CD anyway. This was back when you could install a game and once installed you didn't have to ever re-insert the CD :stoner:

Well anyway, looking at some tutorials :bleh:

Ah, after reading the wiki, I see the game was release in May 2002. That explains why I stole it even thought it wasn't my kind of game. I was about to go to tech school and had spent my entire life savings, $1800, on that dell laptop like in June 2002. I saw the game and the graphics it had and was curious if my laptop would run it. And since I had just bought the laptop, I had no money. So I took the box, went behind a display of men's shavers that was kind of in a corner, ripped open the box and dropped the CD down my pants.

That also explains why my friend and I had a bit of trouble "getting into" the game. We didn't have the manual
manual.pdf
morrowind manual
(58.86 MiB) Downloaded 3 times
That might have helped. I always read the manuals to games usually and that one seems pretty intense.
And speaking of manuals, I was hoping my kids could get into this game. But so far, no go. I honestly couldn't imagine handing them a copy of the manual and telling them to read it.
Is that why the zoomer and alpha generation are so retarded? Because games don't come with thick manuals anymore so they have no need to be good at comprehending reading/writing/language???

Hmm, interesting video. Clearly shows why it can be hard to get into: slow travels speeds and the first "weapon" you find is actually a trap :fag:

Man, game is complicated. Spent a few hours watching stuff just trying to figure out what race to start as and what skills to select

Went with Breton

I think for my first quest, will be to travel far north and get the boots of blinding speed :sly:

I should probably buy a sword first though.

Alright, I'm just now starting to actually "play" the game after many hours of changing graphic settings, then staring at FPS meters. Then getting performance just about where I want it but then installing a bunch of mods and having to start that autistic process all over again :bleh:
But did a few in-game quests today :type:

I managed to get this "glitch" working. I'm somewhat conflicted now. I mean the whole point of the game is to do quests to get money, or get stuff that you can sale for money. Getting free money kind of just makes everything pointless. So, hmm. :scaredjerk:

Still impressed with the amount of stuff in the game though. I mean, if you were playing this back in 2002, it would have taken 100 hours of playing before you would have even known about getting a soul into a "soulgem". Now some random youtube vid bypasses that :bleh:

Alright, I got the boots of blinding speed. So now I have a bunch of money and can actually walk at what would be seen as a normal rate by today's terms. I think I'll do some shopping later :stoner: and then start doing some random quests. :spin:
