I bought a 16-port Netgear router. I'm going make more things cable Ethernet instead of Wifi because I'm concerned about Wifi radiation. :fag:

I remember whining on rage3d back in 2002 about how wifi was "cancer in a box". Plus it was too expensive to mess with back then anyway. But around 2005 I bought a laptop and managed to get linux working on it. It also had a wifi card.

I didn't have an access point but my neighbors did and it was unencrypted. I could connect to it but was really too slow/bad connection to use. I think I actually upgraded the firmware on it hoping that it would improve the signal to me  Neighbor was like 20 years old and had some girl living with him and every now and then I think the girl had a younger sister still in high school and she'd bring all her friends over there.

I figured out that installing ettercap would allow me to snoop on wifi traffic. I managed to get it compiled/installed and sure enough it would dump raw text from packets into the console. The first thing I got was his girlfriend was always browsing this private forum that was described as "support and advice while waiting to pee on a stick (poas)" I was too dumb back then to figure out what that meant

And then one day I noticed all the high school girls over there again, so I fired up ettercap. They were all logging into hotmail and myspace. Ettercap had regex's for 'username', 'password', etc and all their password info was following right into my console. For a few years I'd log into their hotmail and myspace accounts and just browse around their emails and private messages.

I'd say about 90% of the chatter was the worst kind of "OMGOSH" style of girl talk. The other 10% was sex talk like "we've been dating for two months and he hasn't tried to FUCK yet. Do you think he actually likes me" or "we've been dating for two months, should I FUCK him?" or "we've been dating for two months and all he ever tries to do with me is FUCK. Should I finally let him?" :gaytard:

But yea about wifi, I used to buy older netgear business access points. The kind that were all metal.

I started with a 'b' only version. Eventually upgrading to a 'b/g' version. Once I tried upgrading to a 'b/g/n' version, those were all crap. Plus they had dropped the metal case and was all plastic.

The issue was after a week or so of uptime the access point would just stop passing traffic, or traffic only went at a few bytes per second. I tried a few different 'b/g/n' models and all had the same bug. This seemed only be an issue with their business line of access points though. No one using their consumer stuff was complaining but I hated the "spaceship" style of design in their consumer lines.

Ended up going to mikrotik in 2015 or so and never looking back. Still using the model that only supports up to 'ac' mode. Has both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. But I disable 2.4ghz since I don't need it and don't need the extra radiation

Also about the issues with the business netgear access points, I seem to remember a post on a mailing list a few years ago about atheros finally fixing that. Apparently it was an issue going all the way back to the "one laptop per child" project and the mesh networking feature that they were pushing randomly not working was one of the reason that whole project failed :tard:

This is just an Ethernet switch without any wifi BS. PoE this time so that I can connect other switches without pulling out any extra power lines. It's a full metal enclosure and no fans which was important for me.

Here I am installing new Ethernet copper cables in the house. The copper Ethernet cables aren't that cheap and then I read I can buy 30 meter single mode fiber OS2 for $25 :fag:. Why the hell bother with Ethernet copper cables when you can use fiber which scale to 100Gbit and beyond.

I went with cat6 in my attic and walls. It uses thicker wires, so had to also get different plugs to crimp on. But the local store had all that I needed. Don't remember price being too bad. I've wanted to mess with fiber on several occasions, but could never figure out what I would need for the fiber to actually plug into that also wasn't 100's of dollars.
But can't do POE with fiber either :fu:
